Just When We Thought We Were Set...

Kim and I did a lot of work over the weekend trying to get everything finalized. I did 5 loads of baby-laundry, we un-boxed the bouncy seat, swing, infant stroller, and car seat. We washed all the fabric pieces for all of those items, and even put the car seat into both vehicles to make sure we knew it would fit in both and how we needed to arrange it in both. We got most of the hospital bag packed (minus a couple of items that I'll need to purchase). So you think this household of planners is doing pretty good, and Monday I would have agreed.

But today is Tuesday... One of my friends at work called me this morning and said she was forwarding an article and didn't want to make me upset, but thought it was something I should be aware of. So I read the article and everything changed... Apparently there was a money dispute between Cigna (GD's healthcare provider) and Catholic Healthcare West (basically, St. Joe's, the hospital we are delivering at). Effective immediately, St. Joe's is no longer covered under Cigna. Now mind you, she forwarded a newspaper article, not something from Cigna. We still haven't heard anything from Cigna (nice work Cigna, you are living up to your sub-par reputation quite well!). Both Kim and I were on the phone with Cigna, filling out forms, talking to reps, etc, etc, etc. Bottom line from what we can tell (cause God-forbid you should get a straight answer from anyone) is we have to choose another hospital.

So, you wonder about John C. Lincoln since we did the hospital tour there? Well, we found out that Cigna had a money dispute with them a while ago and they are no longer covering John C. Lincoln either. (Like I said, they really do live up to their reputation of being one of the worst insurance companies.) Hey, fortunately for us Good Samaritan is the last hospital our OB has privileges at and at this point in time, they still work with Cigna.

I suppose worse things could happen - at least we get to keep our doctor. It's just frustrating to think that all the planning and research and pre-registration that we did was all for naught and we are stuck with running around at the last hour trying to get this done. We thought we were set. I guess we were too set, huh?

Oh no!! :( How upsetting to have to change hospitals this late in the game!
On a positive note, I had a friend who delivered at Good Sam and she and her husband LOVED it. I'm sure you will have the same experience!

Thanks Ellen. We're hoping to go visit the hospital this weekend to check it out. At least we were able to tell our Dr, who then gave us a low-down of the hospital. Labor/Delivery is the whole 3rd floor and if we park in the parking structure we just take the bridge right into labor/triage. Our own little virtual tour! :)

I was wondering if you guys had Cigna. We are feeling the pain over here as well. All my brain cancer docs are at St. Joe's as well. Gotta love Cigna! We are also in a scramble - although I am trying to switch insurance now, because I am staying with St. Joe's and my docs. Good times. I am glad you guys got it squared away and that you get to keep your doc, and got the other hospital situation covered - Maybe Peanut secretly wanted to be born there or something! hee hee!! :-)
Love, Creeps
